In health care, maintaining high standards of care to protect patients is essential. For registered nurses, mastering resuscitation and first aid is part of expected competence; for care aides it is part of the regulated training. Here is what the rules expect for your role — and how recognized, up-to-date, documented training meets it.

In Germany there is no nationwide nursing-chamber registration with revalidation; the licence (Berufserlaubnis) is issued by the federal states (Länder). There is no licence revalidation and no uniform federal hour requirement. At employer and facility level, however, a documented continuing-education duty applies (about 16 hours over 2 years, roughly 8 hours a year) under SGB V/XI and the PflBG; keeping skills current remains expected and employer-driven.

For care aides, the state-regulated Pflegehelfer / Pflegeassistenz training is decisive; it includes or requires a first-aid course (Erste-Hilfe-Kurs) covering resuscitation. A recognized first-aid certificate covering resuscitation is often required at the start of training and by care-home employers — in addition to the occupational qualification and to be renewed regularly.
