Pflegeheim, Altenheim and Seniorenresidenz (care home / seniors' home); the frontline staff are care aides (Pflegehelfer/Pflegeassistenz), whose training is regulated by the Länder.

The first-aid requirement

The Länder-regulated care-aide programmes (Pflegehelfer/Pflegeassistenz) include or require a first-aid course covering resuscitation; such a certificate is commonly required for training entry and by care-home employers so that staff can intervene immediately in an emergency.

A recognized, up-to-date first-aid or resuscitation certificate is the way to meet this requirement; it is in addition to the staff's occupational training and must be refreshed regularly.
